Malchegalia will build a low-carbon emission steelmaking and hot rolling plant in France.
The Marcegaglia Group of Italy and Danieli jointly announced that the former will invest 450 million euros (approximately 530 million US dollars) to build a brand-new steel-making and hot-rolled sheet production plant in France.
The production plant is designed to have a crude steel annual capacity of 2 million tons and a hot-rolled sheet production line with a capacity of 3 million tons. The finished products will mainly supply the downstream factories of the Marcegaglia Group in Italy.
It is known that the production plant is designed in accordance with European environmental protection and safety standards. It will adopt advanced automation systems, energy-saving technologies, and use low-carbon emission hot-pressed block iron (HBI), nuclear energy and renewable energy for production, reducing carbon emissions. The production plant will build an electric arc furnace, a single-flow thick slab continuous caster and a traditional hot rolling line using Danieli technology.
The final investment decision for this project is expected to be made by the end of 2026 at the latest, depending on the completion of the licensing procedures and other conditions.
