Global crude steel production fell 4.3 per cent in March from a year earlier

On April 23, the World Steel Association (WSA) released global crude steel production data for March. In March, the world's 71 countries and regions included in the statistics of crude steel production of 161.2 million tons, down 4.3% year-on-year. In the first quarter of this year, the world's 71 countries and regions included in the statistics produced 469 million tons of crude steel, an increase of 0.5%.


By region, in March, Africa's crude steel production was 1.9 million tons, an increase of 1.1% year-on-year; Crude steel production in Asia and Oceania was 118.3 million tonnes, down 5.8% year-on-year. Crude steel production in the European Union (27) was 11.6 million tonnes, down 4.3% year-on-year; Crude steel production in other European countries was 3.9 million tons, an increase of 11.0%. Crude steel production in the Middle East was 4.8 million tons, an increase of 4.0%. North American crude steel production was 9.5 million tons, down 1.4%. Crude steel production in Russia and other CIS countries + Ukraine was 7.8 million tons, up 1.5% year-on-year; Crude steel production in South America was 3.5 million tons, down 0.2% year-on-year.

From the world's top ten steel producing countries (places), in March, China's crude steel production was 88.27 million tons, down 7.8%; India's crude steel production was 12.7 million tonnes, up 7.8% year-on-year. Japan's crude steel production was 7.2 million tonnes, down 3.9% year-on-year; Crude steel production in the United States was 6.9 million tons, flat year-on-year; Russia's crude steel production is expected to be 6.6 million tons, up 0.8% year-on-year; South Korea's crude steel production was 5.3 million tons, down 9.5% year-on-year; Germany's crude steel production was 3.5 million tons, an increase of 8.4%. Turkey's crude steel production was 3.2 million tons, an increase of 18.0%. Brazil's crude steel production was 2.8 million tonnes, up 5.6% year-on-year; Iran's crude steel production was 2.8 million tons, up 2.0% year-on-year.
