The largest green steel project in Southeast Asia has been announced to be launched

On May 30th, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Chief Minister of Sabah, Malaysia Hajiji, and others attended the Esteel held at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, Malaysia The launch ceremony of the first phase of the Enterprise Sabah Sdn Bhd (hereinafter referred to as Esteel Sabah) green steel project marks the official launch of the largest green steel project in Southeast Asia.

The designed annual production capacity of the first phase of the above-mentioned project is 2.5 million tons of hot-pressed block iron. The second and third phases will also build two sets of direct reducing iron facilities. After the completion of the third phase, the total production capacity of hot-pressed block iron will reach 7.5 million tons. It is estimated that the third phase of the green steel project will cost a total of 31 billion Malaysian Ringgit (approximately 7.3 billion US dollars). This project, by choosing natural gas instead of coke as the reducing agent, is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 70%, achieving low carbon, high efficiency and environmental protection.
Haji Ji said that the launch of this project marks that Sabah is fully embarking on a green technology revolution and also indicates that Malaysia has taken an important step towards cleaner and more environmentally friendly steel manufacturing. At the same time, this large-scale investment plan not only promotes the innovation and transformation of local green technologies, but also creates a large number of job opportunities for the local area, improves local people's livelihoods, and thereby benefits enterprises and communities in Sempetan and the entire state of Sabah.
