A major breakthrough has been made in the new low-carbon smelting technology for low-quality iron ore in blast furnaces in China

At present, the global steel industry is standing at a crossroads of low-carbon transformation, and green and low-carbon technologies have become the key for the industry to achieve low-carbon transformation. Although China is rich in iron ore reserves, it is confronted with the problem of how to effectively utilize low-quality iron ore. The utilization of low-quality iron ore to achieve low-carbon ironmaking in blast furnaces is a recognized worldwide challenge. For this reason, a team led by Professor Zhang Jianliang, the director of the School of Metallurgy at University of Science and Technology Beijing, after years of exploration and practice, proposed and developed a new low-carbon smelting technology for low-quality iron ore in blast furnaces, successfully solving this problem.
This technology innovatively proposes a low soft melting zone operation mode suitable for low-quality iron ore in blast furnaces, pioneering the self-repairing technology of blast furnace cylinders and the copper-steel composite cooling wall of the furnace body, and has developed the key process for preparing high-quality sintered ore from low-quality iron ore. This technology improves the quality of raw materials for blast furnaces by inventing a new method of "high-efficiency sintering". Develop new "high-efficiency smelting" technologies to reduce fuel consumption in blast furnaces; Develop new "safe and stable" equipment to ensure the long service life of blast furnace equipment, thereby achieving the goal of low-carbon smelting in blast furnaces.
This technology was highly praised by Johannes Schenk. He believes that this research achievement provides a "Chinese solution" for low-carbon smelting of low-grade iron ore in blast furnaces for the global steel industry, and he gave a thumbs-up in praise: "Great!"
China's technological innovations in low-grade iron ore resources will contribute to the historic leap of the global steel industry from "carbon dependence" to "hydrogen-driven". The steel industry is currently in a period of low-carbon transformation. In the future, more technologies will continue to emerge, and eventually the market will select the best solution. Finally, Johannes Schenk said so.
